A high-level stakeholders' meeting was held today between the Executive Chairman of the Osun Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), the leadership of the Students' Union Governments of all tertiary institutions in Osun State (UNIOSUN, OSPOLY IREE, OSCOTECH ESA-OKE, OSSCE ILESA, UNILESA, OSCOED ILA, etc.), and the Fathers/Leaders of the students' movement to deliberate on the recent implementation and integration of the Tax Clearance Payment on school portals.
The meeting was convened following agitations and complaints from students regarding the sudden appearance of the tax fee on the portal. After extensive deliberations, the following resolutions/conclusions were reached:
RESOLUTIONS / CONCLUSIONS:
After listening to the students' plight and with a commitment to students' welfare, the Chairman of OIRS resolved as follows:
1. REVIEWED PAYMENT STRUCTURE: a) New Students (ND1 & HND1 / 100L): N11,500 b) Returning Students (ND2 & HND2 / Final Year): N4,500 Note: ND1/HND1 who have paid will not pay again in ND2/HND2 all they have to do is to get their tax certificate and insert the pin to verify within 24 hours.
2. IMMEDIATE PENDING OF PAYMENT ON PORTAL: The Chairman has directed that the tax payment should be halted (suspended/removed) from all institutions' portals with immediate effect, based on each institution's academic structure and calendar. No student should be denied access to registration, examination or portal services on account of the tax for now.
3. PROPER ORIENTATION ON TAX CLEARANCE: There shall be a proper and comprehensive orientation/sensitization program on Tax Clearance and its importance for students across all institutions in Osun State before re-implementation. The OIRS will liaise with each SUG for this orientation.
4. ESTABLISHMENT OF OIRS DESK OFFICERS: The OIRS will enable and station OIRS Officers/Desk Officers in each tertiary institution in the state to attend to students, provide clarification, and ensure seamless processing of tax clearance without extortion.
5. COMMITMENT TO PARTNERSHIP: The OIRS Chairman assured of continuous partnership with students' leadership and promised that no anti-student policy will be implemented.
